Recent Projects

On a rolling basis throughout the year we accept project proposals that specifically advance our mission statement. In doing so we have funded a number of projects throughout our lifespan. Every year we receive extensively researched project proposals that are aimed at advancing conservation efforts for wild and captive orangutans in rehabilitation centers. Here you will find which project proposals we have selected to fund for the year of 2019.

Sintang Orangutan Center – 2020

Emergency COVID-19 Orangutan Quarantine Enclosures

The Orangutan Conservancy has awarded an emergency grant to the Sintang Orangutan Center located in West Kalimantan, Borneo. This grant will be used for the construction of special quarantine enclosures for new and incoming orangutans. The threat of COVID-19 has made it extremely important to ensure the health of each and every orangutan progressing through the rehabilitation program.

Borneo Nature Foundation – 2019

Enhancing research infrastructure in Sebangau Forest to help study and protect the Critically Endangered Bornean Orangutan

The Orangutan Conservancy has chosen to award funding to The Borneo Nature Foundation’s infrastructure proposal, scheduled to take place in Sebangau Forest in Borneo later this year. This project is aimed at rebuilding an aging boardwalk that serves as a critical route for researchers, conservationists, students, and even wildlife!

Sintang Orangutan Center – 2019

Medical/Annual Support Funding

The Orangutan Conservancy has awarded funds secured through the LA ZOO/GLAZA grant to the Sintang Orangutan Center (SOC). SOC specializes in rescue, rehabilitation, and release of wild orangutans, who have typically been confiscated from private individuals in the pet trade. This funding will allow SOC to continue their important work of orangutan rehabilitation in West Kalimantan.

OC has been funding projects in Southeast Asia for over 20 years. Check out our full list of funded projects and learn about the impacts they have made on the fight to save orangutans.
